Mining services supplier ROSOND has donated a vehicle and office container to the Age of Hope Centre in Postmasburg. ROSOND’s Nhlanhla Mahlangu presented the car keys to the centre in an event on the 11 May 2018. This was attended by Tsantsabane councillor Mr Elroy Phete.
The Age of Hope Centre for Vulnerable Children and the Aged was established with support from the Department of Social Services and Population Development in 2006. The centre sets out to create a safety net for the poor, sick, the elderly, and vulnerable children, to provide immediate relief and thereby encourage community involvement in development projects.
The centre runs a soup kitchen, which feeds around 4000 people with a balanced meal five times a week, in three different communities – Postdene, Newtown and Boichoko – in Tsantsabane Municipality. The beneficiaries include vulnerable children, people infected and affected by HIV, and other disadvantaged groups in Postmasburg. The organisation has also started providing for street children on a daily basis throughout winter.
In addition, Age of Hope childminders run after-school programs with vulnerable children, activities for the aged, and information sessions. They are further concerned with the establishment of socio-economic and skills development programs necessary for long term upliftment.
Following a request for assistance from the centre, ROSOND’s Human Resources Manager, Mr Jacob Matlou visited the project in order to assess what assistance ROSOND could provide. The mining services company have donated a vehicle, needed to reach beneficiaries unable to come to the service points and to conduct site visits, as well as shopping and deliveries. The shipping container will be used for office space.
ROSOND supplies surface drilling services for Kumba, near Postmasburg.
