Training Manager (Permanent)
Location: Midrand – Gauteng
As the Training Manager, you will manage and oversee the learning and development function of Rosond by incorporating research, industry trends and best practices. You will be expected to provide leadership, subject-matter expertise and strategic direction in the definition and execution of all training and development programmes aligned with business objectives, budget requirements, skills matrices, legislative requirements, applicable agreements and company policies. The role further includes the development and implementation of Unit Standards-based training material in compliance with relevant legislation.
We are seeking a suitably qualified candidate for the position listed below to be based in Midrand. Preference will be given to Employment Equity candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
Learning Strategy & Stakeholder Engagement
- Promote Learning & Development services to internal stakeholders and proactively facilitate nominations for formal training programmes and talent initiatives.
- Conduct in-depth learning needs analysis in consultation with stakeholders across all levels.
- Identify skills gaps, performance challenges and organisational capability needs.
- Initiate and manage custom learning and business support initiatives aligned to business strategy.
- Implement new tools, methodologies and learning solutions to improve performance.
- Keep abreast of developments within the specialisation area and modern learning methodologies.
- Oversee and maintain all learning and development facilities and related equipment.
- Maximise utilisation of training facilities and resources.
- Lead and manage the Learning & Development team.
- Ensure roles are clearly defined and competencies and learning paths are developed to build organisational capability.
Training Design & Development
- Source appropriate learning materials and methodologies to address identified training needs.
- Develop assessment guides and review/update learning materials.
- Evaluate training providers and oversee assessment and moderation processes.
- Ensure training methods meet legal and safety compliance requirements.
Talent Development & Mentorship
- Manage the young talent pipeline (graduates, students, Professionals in Training, etc.).
- Coordinate induction, onboarding, coaching and mentoring initiatives.
- Facilitate and monitor mentoring programmes.
- Manage performance development and exposure to operational/site environments.
Compliance & Accreditation
- Implement the company’s BBBEE strategy in relation to skills development.
- Oversee operational training spend in line with compliance requirements.
- Obtain and maintain ISO9001:2015 certification, including development and maintenance of the Quality Management System.
- Obtain and maintain MQA workplace approval of the training centre.
- Manage accreditation-related activities and processes for Rosond OEM training.
- Ensure legal compliance and accurate record keeping.
- Oversee completion of mandatory HRD reports and plans (WSP/ATR).
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
- Track, analyse and report on training effectiveness and ROI.
- Report on training initiatives, associated costs and project outcomes.
- Use data and feedback to continuously refine learning solutions.
- Maintain accurate training records on SAGE or other MIS systems for auditing purposes.
Qualification and Experience
- Degree in HR or related field (NQF Level 7).
- Registered Facilitator, Assessor and Moderator.
- Management Development Programme or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Training Manager or in a similar role, preferably in the mining or drilling industry.
- In-depth experience in a Learning and Development function at managerial level.
- Proven experience in organisational learning, change management and skills development.
- Experience in a technical function (engineering, mining or metallurgy) in the mining environment.
- Experience evaluating training effectiveness and using data to inform business decisions.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of mining operations, technologies and safety procedures
- Knowledge of relevant legislation including the Mine Health and Safety Act, Basic Conditions of Employment Act, Skills Development Act and Learnership regulations
- Knowledge of ISO9001:2015, MQA accreditation, QCTO and SAQA requirements
- Understanding of Learning & Development best practices and talent management principles
- Strong leadership, communication and analytical skills
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
- High level of integrity and accountability.
- Proficient in MS Office Suite with advanced knowledge of MS Excel.
- Strong problem-solving ability.
